Roches moutonnées in outcrop at Churchill, Manitoba.

This scene displays quartzite bedrock that has been scoured, striated, plucked, and shaped by glaciers to form 'roches moutonnées'. The plucking, which took place in the down-flow direction of ice movement, indicates that the glaciers moved from the right (north) to the left (south) across the photograph. Branches grow preferentially on the leeward side of trees in this windswept area along the coast of Hudson Bay.
